A commitment that moves us

Sustainability Report 2017

During this last year, we have worked firmly to strengthen our priorities, thus contributing to the fulfillment of our organizational goals and focusing efforts to be more efficient in the search to fulfill our social responsibility commitments.

One of these priorities is precisely to contribute to the conservation of the environment, the main strategy has been to invest in clean technologies demonstrated with the acquisition of highly energy efficient transport units in the renewal and expansion of the vehicle fleet and in monitoring the performance of said fleet through preventive maintenance programs and attractive incentives for the operator of these units to join in the effort to consume as little fuel as possible. We know that in this way we invest in the future, putting our grain of sand in the global effort to reduce polluting waste.

Also during this period, we piloted clean technology accessories, such as skirts that help improve trailer aerodynamics and EPA SmartWay ® -certified tires that meet the CARB fuel economy standard.

We continue to participate, as part of one of our commitments, with regional and national civil associations, whose objectives and activities are consistent with the principles and philosophy of social responsibility of Pitic ® . We can mention that on April 17, we signed an agreement with the Mexican Association of Food Banks, which is made up of 61 local Food Banks nationwide and its objective is to rescue food to combat hunger and improve nutrition. of the vulnerable population in Mexico. We will have the pleasure and happiness of being part of your national food distribution chain and contributing in this way to your noble cause, but also, this activity serves to make better use of our natural resources, since it avoids the waste of food that we already have come at an environmental cost, and were it not for these Food Bank rescue activities, they would be wasted in a very unfortunate way.

By meeting other of our commitments, the one corresponding to education, we managed to strengthen our support program for educational excellence, once again rewarding the best students who are children of our collaborators, and we are laying the foundations for establishing support for those students who need to increase their use or to have support that allows them to continue with their education, and that can translate into a decrease in school dropout

Despite the economic environment, which is often complicated and full of discouraging signs, we have managed to continue growing, based on commercial and financial discipline, supported of course by the efforts of all of us who make up Pitic ® . Thanks to this, we were able to continue supporting 28 organizations related to our social responsibility objectives and managed to make investments aimed at improving our environmental performance, as already mentioned in previous paragraphs with the acquisition of efficient units together with clean technology accessories.

One of the most serious risks to achieving our sustainability commitment continues to be fuel prices and the peso-dollar parity, since the former is our main consumable and the latter determines the acquisition cost of transportation units and many of our clean technology inputs, but we are confident that our operation will continue to be effective and efficient enough, which will allow us to maintain our long-term business relationships, ensuring our sources of income.

Main achievements

Thanks to the fact that we are a company with healthy finances and, above all, with a well-established philosophy of social responsibility, we can congratulate ourselves for some of the achievements we achieved during this period, among which we can mention:

– Environmental performance of our fleet, which together with all the fuel saving technologies and practices that Pitic ® has, allowed us to obtain excellent environmental performance, saving 4,775,535 liters of fuel, which translates into a reduction equivalent to 12,990 tons of CO 2 emissions in the atmosphere.

– Installation in 50 of our trailers, of a tire model that complies with the verification

U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) SmartWay ® and meeting the California Air Resources Board (CARB) fuel efficiency standard, these tires employ technology that translates into better rolling, allows less tire wear and lower fuel consumption.

– Installation of 60 skirts on the same number of trailers to improve their aerodynamic profile, these allow redirecting airflow and crosswinds that increase aerodynamic resistance, allowing the rear wheels, cross members and axles to provide better laminar flow of the air around the trailer, i.e. they reduce wind resistance.

– Acquisition of 14 units for local deliveries in branches with high-efficiency motors and less environmental impact, complying with the EPA 04 standard.

– We acquired 55 Volvo trucks, equipped with state-of-the-art engines and transmissions, which allow better handling, greater energy use and lower CO2 emissions. These units comply with the EPA 04 standard.

– For the third consecutive year, we recognized the best students among the children of our collaborators, recognizing and awarding on this occasion 112 children and young people for their high academic performance, being 81 elementary, 25 middle school and 6 high school.

– Once again, the Pitic Excellence Scholarship was awarded through the Spouses Foundation

Rodriguez, on this occasion supporting the young engineer Rubén Álvarez Martínez with 20 thousand dollars, who is in Ireland studying a Master's Degree in Electronic Engineering and

Computing at University College Dublin.

– We join the national effort in support of those affected by the earthquakes that occurred in the south of the country, participating with the Mexican Red Cross with the transfer of donations from various parts of Mexico to the collection centers in the affected areas. It is worth noting the willingness of our colleagues at Pitic ® to organize and participate in the internal collection campaigns that were carried out in different branches of the country.

We intend to implement more elaborate volunteer programs, where we can have our collaborators as protagonists of social responsibility efforts at Pitic®. It will be extremely important to support institutions with experience in corporate volunteering in order to have a greater impact on the efforts that we allocate to this end within the next year.

We can say that we continue to meet the main objectives within our organization, but we must not neglect those that help us expand the impact of our efforts, such as those related to corporate volunteering or those related to collaborating with other organizations that coincide with us in the efforts to strengthen the education and quality of life of the vulnerable population of the communities where we have a presence.

challenges

Within the next year, a complex economic panorama is expected, where events such as the next federal elections, the renegotiation of NAFTA, as well as the inflationary impact on the national economy that may cause fluctuations in fuel and energy prices will play a predominant role. . The effects of said events must be correctly foreseen and estimated, in order to place ourselves in such a position that the possible adverse consequences of said events do not affect us to a degree that prevents us from being effective in meeting our goals.

Without a doubt, the efforts focused on finding innovative solutions that are carried out within Pitic, focused on continuous improvement or finding new solutions to our problems, will be necessary in the area of social responsibility, since we cannot and should not rely on just giving support. financial and in kind to social assistance institutions, but we must make efforts on our part to be able to meet the needs of our internal community, and to be able to support with this the development of our people and our community, and thus begin to change the world changing ourselves.
