Two keys to saving fuel

Mexican carriers have been paying nearly 20% more for diesel and gasoline for more than two months. The liberalization of its price has set in motion a dynamic that has no turning back, in such a way that now it is necessary to adjust costs, optimize processes and make routes more efficient, since the business has to continue being a business.
For this reason, Andreu Casadella, CEO of TomTom Telematics Mexico, explains that real-time information is the difference between managing a fleet efficiently or not. Telematics, in this sense, has become one of the main allies of transport entrepreneurs.
And it is that the trend goes beyond a GPS or a satellite tracker: today companies require statistics, quantitative and qualitative analysis, operating conditions, driving habits, in order to know if the units are circulating in the best conditions.
Casadella explains two essential keys to face the rise in fuels and get the most out of the technologies available on the market:
1. Green range training
To have the best operators you have to train them. Under this premise, the specialist explains that a trucking company, from its office, can know in real time if the operator presses the accelerator too hard, brakes abruptly or is idling for a long time.
When hiring a technological solution, he adds, the employer establishes the driving parameters and the operator receives training, so that while driving he can know if he is within the so-called green range, and this, at the end of the day, will translate into up to 30% in fuel savings.
2. Route management
Unlike a GPS or satellite tracker, a telematics solution allows identifying dangerous or congested road sections, in such a way that both the operator and the traffic manager or the person in charge of monitoring the units, will be able to determine the best path to save time and fuel. .
Andreu Casadella details that the national trucking sector is severely hit, because between the rise in fuel prices, the depreciation of the peso against the dollar and insecurity on the roads, the room for maneuver is becoming limited. That is why technology continues to position itself as a key ally to optimize human and economic resources.
