They create parking spaces in NY for messaging
October 8th, 2013
New York Governor Andrew Cuomo decided to give New Yorkers a break
after he announced in June the tightening of penalties for drivers
who use their mobile phones while driving, because now motorists will have a
place to stop for text messages and calls.
The implementation of designated areas for motorists to stop at
use their cell phones, called 'message zones', seeks to reduce the number
of accidents caused by motorists who use their cell phones while
they drive.
'Message zones' were set up along major highways in New
York so that motorists can stop to write without endangering the
safety of other citizens.
With this action, New York Governor Andrew Cuomo said that he seeks to reduce
distracted car crashes, which are five times higher than
those recorded in cases where drivers drive while intoxicated.
The purpose of the 'message zones' is to encourage drivers to get out of
the roads and stop in a designated space if they need to make a call
phone or send a text message.
A total of 300 signs will be installed in 90 different areas of the state of New
York to mark the spaces that will be designated as areas enabled for
motorists can stop to use their phones.
