Sustainable fleet management
May 6th, 2021What benefits does good fleet management generate in the environment?
Creating a sustainable program is one of the best contributions a fleet can make to take care of the planet. In the United States, for example, the transportation sector is one of the two largest contributors to GHG, according to the latest report
of the Environmental Protection Agency of that country, on emissions.
Among the benefits is reducing the carbon footprint of fleets, through better route management, or through the use of alternative fuel vehicles. Additionally, it also allows vehicle companies to comply with applicable emissions regulations.
As an organization, it is important to convey to employees how to maintain the most sustainable fleet:
Train drivers: Taking into account harsh braking and other similar phenomena, drivers can be informed based on their driving style and help them understand that efficient driving also means being more environmentally friendly.
Motivate drivers: Increasing effectiveness by recognizing employees for saving fuel is one way to continue sustainability in the fleet.
Reduce distances travelled: With efficient route management, distances can usually be reduced, as peak traffic hours or unnecessary repetitions are avoided.
Make use of new technologies: Vehicle manufacturers have set out to increase efficiency, although the cost of some features may seem too high at the time of purchase. Don't be afraid to try different technologies and see what return on investment you get.
